Building a Shopify Storefront for a Himalayan Product Brand
Notes from a freelance build where the brand, the products, and the audience all mattered.

The brief was simple: make the product the star. That meant getting the photography, typography, and copy working together before any Liquid templates were written.
Start with the product story
Virohana Naturals sells products with a specific origin: Himalayan dog chews, teas, and wellness goods sourced from Nepal. The storefront needed to explain that origin quickly without turning every product page into a long brand manifesto.
I treated the photography, product names, and short descriptions as the primary interface. Navigation and promotional sections were kept quiet so shoppers could understand what was being sold before being asked to buy it.
Work with the theme, not against it
Shopify's theme layer is more flexible than it first appears. The useful work was not replacing every existing pattern. It was identifying the few places where custom Liquid, JavaScript, and styling would make the buying journey clearer.
- Keep reusable content editable through Shopify sections and blocks.
- Use product templates for repeated information instead of copying markup between pages.
- Reserve custom JavaScript for behavior that improves the shopping flow.
Make performance part of the design
Product photography carries the brand, but it can also become the heaviest part of the page. Stable image dimensions, sensible crops, and lazy loading below the fold kept the layout from shifting while images arrived.
The final lesson was restraint. A smaller set of well-tuned sections was easier for the client to maintain and easier for customers to navigate. The storefront did not need more features. It needed the right information in the right order.
